Andrea Liese is Professor for International Organizations and Public Policy at the Department of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Potsdam. She completed her studies in Political Science, Law, Sociology and German Literature at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and received her doctorate from the University of Bremen in 2001. From 2007 to 2009 she worked as an Assistant Professor for International Politics at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She has also conducted research and/or taught courses at the Free University Berlin, the Technical University Dresden, and Harvard University.

She is principal investigator of the subproject D8 "'Talk, and Action': How International Organizations React to Areas of Limited Statehood", which is part of the German Research Foundation sponsored research program (SFB 700) on "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood." Andrea Liese is a member of the Research Council of the United Nations Association of Germany, serves on the steering committee of the Master's Program in International Relations (offered jointly by the University of Potsdam, Free University Berlin and Humboldt University) and is an Associate Supervisor at the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies.

Her publications include "Staaten am Pranger. Zur Wirkung internationaler Regime auf die innerstaatliche Menschenrechtspolitik" (2006) and "Internationale Arbeitsregulierung in Zeiten der Globalisierung. Politisch-organisatorisches Lernen in der Internationalen Arbeitsorganisation (IAO)" (2003, co-authored with Eva Senghaas-Knobloch and Jan-Dirks), as well as journal articels in the German journal for International Relations (Zeitschrift für Internationale Beziehungen), the Journal of International Law and International Relations, and in two special editions of Politische Vierteljahresschrift.

Her research fields are international institutions, transnational cooperation (state and non-state actors) in international human rights and development policy, intra-organizational process of change in the UN specialized agencies, and the interaction of organizations in the United Nations system.
