The Research Center 700 (SFB) focuses on the questions:
How can effective and legitimate governance be sustained in areas of limited statehood? What problems emerge under such conditions?
The Research Center (SFB) 700 is funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG). It is hosted by the Freie Universität Berlin and involves scholars from the University of Potsdam, the Hertie School of Governance, the Social Science Research Center Berlin (Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin - WZB), the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik - SWP), and the European University Institute, Florence. The Research Center is located at Alfried Krupp Haus in Berlin's Friedenau district.

About 40 participants - academics and practitioners - accepted the invitation to the presentation of the new series "Governance and Limited Statehood" published by Palgrave Macmillan last Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Hertie School of Governance.
