Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP)

The Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (German Institute for International and Security Affairs - SWP) is an independent research facility, which advises the German Bundestag, the German Federal Government as well as the economy and the professional public in all matters regarding security and foreign policy, based on the results of their practical research. The academic staff of the SWP makes a valuable contribution in their respective field of study through analyses and publications, personal consulting as well as their participation in national and international dialogue. The SWP was established in 1962 as a civil law foundation. The main headquarter is based in Berlin, with an additional office located in Brussels. All in all, the SWP currently retains roughly 130 employees. The institute is supported by federal funds as well as external funds from organizations dealing specifically with research funding.
