Jan Willms read International Relations (major: Public International Law) at the TU Dresden and at the Université Paris X Nanterre, a course he completed with a Bachelor of Arts in 2006. In 2007 he obtained a Masters of Laws (LL.M.) in Public International Law from the University of Nottingham. Then (in 2007/2008), he worked as a Carlo-Schmid-Fellow for the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague. In 2008/2009 he was Legal Attaché in the Legal Division of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva. Since March 2010 he is Research Associate in Subproject C8 and writes his PhD about the responsibility of the United Nations to enforce international humanitarian law in peace support operations.
