Working Group Spaces of Governance
The SFB working group on spaces of governance focuses on the spatial conceptualization of areas of limited statehood. The working group distinguishes analytically between territorial, social and issue-area-determined areas of limited statehood.
How can these different types of space be measured for empirical research? Do different types of spaces have different consequences for governance?
The working group further seeks to explore the conceptual benefits of the spatial turn for governance research at the SFB 700. This analytical perspective allows us to compare systematically areas of effective provision of public goods and services with areas of limited statehood. We can then use this criterion to distinguish between areas of effective governance and areas of governance failure.
